Fota Island Golf Course
Carrigtwohill, County Cork
Fota Island takes its name from a small peninsula jutting into Cork Harbour between Cork City and the heritage town of Cobh. The course is built in the grounds of a 780-acre estate and the mature woodlands are woven into the challenge together with the shoreline, bunkering and undulating greens. The original design by Christy O'Connor Junior hosted several important tournaments before major redesign work, begun in 1998, allowed the staging of the Murphys Irish Open at Fota Island in 2001 and 2002 in the home town of the title sponsors. The Irish Open returned to Fota Island in 2014.
Fota Island is 9 miles east of Cork city and 25 miles from Kinsale.
